The newest and longest route, circling the entire northern slopes. Nine days produces the highest summit success on the mountain, around 95 percent, and takes you through terrain almost no other trekkers see.
Forest walk to Big Tree Camp at 2,780m.
Climb to the Shira Plateau at 3,505m.
Cross the plateau and turn north to Moir Hut at 4,200m, with an acclimatisation walk to Lent Hills.
Begin the northern traverse to Buffalo Camp at 4,020m. From here you have the mountain almost to yourself.
Continue the circuit past Pofu Camp to Third Cave at 3,800m, with views north into Kenya.
Climb steeply to School Hut at 4,800m, the northern summit base camp. Early dinner and rest.
Midnight departure for Gilman Point and Uhuru Peak at 5,895m at sunrise, then descend the southern side to Millennium Camp at 3,820m.
A relaxed descent day through heath and forest to Mweka Camp at 3,100m, with time to enjoy having summited.
Final rainforest descent, certificates and transfer to Moshi.

The daily distances are moderate and the gradient is gentle. Most trekkers find it easier day to day than Machame because the body is never rushed.
