A Chagga village day on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. Walk to the 90 metre Materuni waterfall, swim in the plunge pool, then roast and grind your own coffee with a village family.
Pick-up at 08:00 and drive to Materuni village at 1,600m on Kilimanjaro southern slopes, through banana and coffee plantations.
A 45 minute walk each way down a forest path to the base of the waterfall. The pool is cold and swimmable. Bring a towel and shoes with grip.
Return to the village for the coffee process: picking, pulping, drying, roasting over a fire and grinding by hand with a mortar and traditional Chagga singing. Drink what you made, followed by a home-cooked lunch.
Drive back to Moshi or Arusha, arriving late afternoon.
