A compact park with remarkable variety. Groundwater forest, the famous tree-climbing lions, hippo pools and an alkaline lake fringed with flamingos, all beneath the Rift Valley escarpment.
Depart at 07:00 for the two hour drive past Mto wa Mbu village. Enter the park and drive through the groundwater forest where the canopy closes overhead.
Continue to the open floodplain and lake shore for flamingo, pelican and buffalo, then the hippo pool. Picnic lunch at a viewpoint over the lake.
Afternoon game drive with a stop at the Rift Valley escarpment viewpoint, then return to Arusha by about 18:00.
